Opers

Opers exist to operate the network.

This may seem to be an overly simple way of explaining their role, but it does actually cover every aspect of what a oper is expected to do.

Specifically, opers:

  • ensure that all clients on the network (including other staff) are abiding by Blitzed's published policies
  • maintain the health of the network on a day-to-day basis. This mainly entails fixing netsplits and dealing with serious abuses of policy
  • take an interest in issues involving the network and help their admin to participate in admin votes
  • report problems they cannot deal with to other staff who hopefully can

We do not expect our opers to interfere in channel affairs and we take a very dim view of any oper that does so. All channels are of course ultimately network property, but on Blitzed, channel founders expect to be able to run them in whichever way they see fit within the limits of network policy.

This cuts both ways; it also means that there isn't a lot that opers are expected to do about users being "annoying" in channels.

Blitzed also does not wish to have excess "vanity opers." All persons who have access to oper privileges on Blitzed are expected to only have them because they need them.
