This merge represented a much bigger task than the previous linking of porkchop.dk.eu.blitzed.org, since CyGa.Net was a longer-established network. Blitzed continues its innovation as it becomes one of the world's first networks to use geographic load balancing. This means that anyone connecting to irc.blitzed.org is automatically sent to a physically close server.
The development means faster connections are the default for all Blitzed users, as well as minimizing the effect of netsplits in our predominantly regional channels.
[edit] May 15th, 2004
Hardware problems on nubian.blitzed.org cause extended downtime of website and IRC services, lack of updates to OPM zones, etc.. Thanks to assistance from Solaris, everything is rebuilt over the course of the next day with a hard drive failure being the suspected cause of the problems.
Intermittent reboots continue for the next few weeks however, and the problem is eventually tracked down to a loose power plug in the drive chassis.
