Global opers' access to OperServ

From Blitzed

Jump to: navigation, search

Currently our global opers have very limited access to the functions of OperServ. Certain opers have expressed a need to use some features that they are currently unable to access, so this page exists as a record of what changes might need to be made to allow that.

Please list below the major areas of OperServ that should be opened up. Please try to only list things you have direct personal experience of wanting to do but being unable -- I don't really want any well this might be useful or I heard someone once needed to do this and couldn't style of comments.

As things are agreed upon, tickets should be submitted to the services queue of RT so that changes can be made to the code.

[edit] AKILLs

[edit] Adding AKILLs

Just the other day, I tried to akill ~dfgghg@* (or similar ident), which operserv denied me. Would be great if this "safe" check somehow got "lowered". --Tux 15:55, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

This is not simple to do, the checks are there for a good reason (to prevent accidents), and services is unable to tell the difference between ~fywnhd@* and ~WinNT@*. In these rare occasions isn't it okay just to ask a svsoper or svsadmin to do it? -- grifferz 19:44, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)
It's fine by me, I don't mind asking, but certain other people do apparently, so I thought I'd bring it up. --Tux 19:59, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I have seen a certain host show up in Flood notices several times, all I could do was akill them for a few hours or kline them from chocolate.*. It would have been nicer if I had been able to add a longer akill and keep those flooders/drones/whatever away from Blitzed. --Alex 18:34, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I wanted to delete a drone channel with random usernames (standard 7 day akill) but got this instead:

-OperServ- You are only permitted to add AKILLs that last up to 12 hours.
Services Opers and Admins may add longer term AKILLs.
-OperServ- You are only permitted to add AKILLs that last up to 12 hours.
Services Opers and Admins may add longer term AKILLs.
-OperServ- You are only permitted to add AKILLs that last up to 12 hours.
Services Opers and Admins may add longer term AKILLs.

I'd like to be able to AKILL for longer then 12 hours. --Mrten 00:33, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

If I put in an option for how long global opers are able to akill for and then set this at say, 7 or 30 days, would this answer these complaints from both of you? -- grifferz 19:44, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Removing AKILLs

Some people get akilled for a session limit exceed, and try to find out how they can avoid this. Some people have an open proxy, and try to fix this. In both cases it would be nice if I could remove the akill for them (once), instead of telling them to wait for the akill to expire. --Alex 18:34, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)

same here.. (btw: call me squid expert ;-]) I see no risk in being able to do so because there is no other reasonable use for it. You wouldn't see opers removing akills for their open proxies, heh? --Morgoth 09:11, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

So if I made it optional for services to not allow opers to remove each other's akills and then we turned that option off, would this suit both of you? -- grifferz 19:44, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)
